Mathematics is an abstract science focusing on the the study of numbers, quantity, and distance. Mathematics is often referred to as a language and a tool, both of which are fundamental to other disciplines, including physics and engineering. Statistics is a science that considers the collection, classification, analysis, and interpretation of data, especially large data sets, using mathematical theories of probability.
As a math or statistics major, you will develop strong theoretical, quantitative, problem-solving, investigative, software/IT, and communication skills. Career opportunities for graduates in both disciplines include: data or research analyst, secondary school teacher, financial advisor, actuary, biostatistician, data miner, market/survey researcher, and even sports statistician!
